Why corona treatment is needed before printing
PE, OPP and PP film have low surface energy — ink and adhesive form beads and peel off without treatment. A corona treater applies a controlled electrical discharge that raises the surface's dyne level, usually to a range suitable for printing, so the next process bonds reliably.
Specifications
What to specify
| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Line width | Match the treater electrode width to your film width. |
| Line speed | Higher speeds need higher treater power for the same treatment level. |
| Material | PE, OPP, BOPP, PP, NY and PET behave differently under treatment. |
| Dyne target | Printing typically targets 38–42 dynes/cm — confirm with your ink supplier. |
| Position | In line before printing, or on the blown film line before winding. |
In the line
Where it sits in the line
Between unwind and print
On a printing press, the treater runs just before the first colour station.
On the film line
On a blown film line, treatment happens before winding so rolls are ready for the next step.
Re-treatment
Treated film can lose surface energy over time; re-treatment before converting is sometimes needed.
How to choose
How to match a treater
Give your film width and speed
Width and line speed determine the electrode size and power.
State the next process
Printing and lamination have different dyne requirements.
Ask for a line proposal
The treater is configured together with your press or film line — auxiliary equipment is quoted as part of the package.

Frequently asked
questions
Is corona treatment really necessary?
For PE/OPP/PP film, printing without corona treatment usually fails adhesion tests. It is a standard step before printing and lamination.
What dyne level is needed?
Printing commonly targets 38–42 dynes/cm; confirm the exact value with your ink supplier.
Can it be added to an existing line?
Yes — a treater can be retrofitted to most presses and film lines; give us your width and speed.
Is the treater a separate purchase?
It is auxiliary equipment and can be quoted together with the main machine or supplied as an upgrade.
